Fire departments, festivals, friendly folks, and food
August 17, 2008 - Fire departments, festivals, friendly folks, and food. That sums up my weekend in Minnesota's 2nd district.
These are the kind of weekends that make Minnesota summers so enjoyable. Over the past two days, I had the pleasure of spending time in six counties in Minnesota's 2nd district. Saturday morning I participated in a parade in Waconia and helped the Carver County community celebrate its fire department's 125th anniversary. After the festival, I traveled to LeCenter, where I visited with folks at the Le Sueur County Fair. Later in the afternoon, I was joined in Kenyon by more than 40 volunteers to celebrate the annual Rose Festival. After the parade, I stopped at the Randolph Fire Department's annual chicken barbecue, where thousands of Minnesotans flock annually to enjoy good company and great food.
On Sunday, I returned to Goodhue County for another staple of summer - the Goodhue Lions' annual chicken barbecue. Similar to the event in Randoph, this yearly event attracts thousands of Minnesotans. What a weekend - and a great reminder of what an honor it is to represent the wonderful men and women who make up the fine communities in Minnesota's 2nd district.
